WHO DO WE WRITE FOR? By: Sekou Kenneh September 30, 2009 As
we continue to observe the way our website is being managed by some of
the members of the so-called FELMAUSA'S web management team, I think the
phrase"LEVEL PLAYING FIELD" is lost. The recent article dated: September
20/2009("MMA PRESIDENTIAL HOPEFUL BLASTS DELIQUENT STATES", by Nvasikie
Konneh) was a clear indication that the FELMAUSA'S website is managed
with partiality by some members of the team. We need to sometimes ask
ourselves as to whether we write for ourselelves, our readers or to get
our messages across? In my view, we have to write to get our messages
across and must have a positive impact on the people that we are trying
to inform. Partiality and nepotism is not the way forward.Although an article may coincidentally favor one, but not by an inclination or preconception. If an article is lacking accuracy, balance or objectivity, it loses its credibility. Inorder for an article to resonate with the people, it has to be credible. Writing with predilection is not only unprofessional and unethical, but also counterproductive. Some members of the web team are involved in the habits of using the website as their personal property. They use the website as a tool to attack anyone they disagree with, and to promote anyone that supports their intolerable behaviors. They would publish any article of their own regardless of the content and objective. They would also publish any article that they believe to be in their favor, but suppress or ignore any article that they think is not in their favor, with a complete disregard for the author. For these and many other reasons, you find some of our brothers turning to FACEBOOK and other social networking sites to get their messages across. I think the article mentioned above was well articulated, but sentimental and belated. It's untimely in my view. As we are making preparation for this historic inauguration of our newly elected officials of FELMAUSA, the article has the propensity to create some doubts in the minds of our friends and foes about the legitimacy of the last FELMAUSA'S elections held in Minneapolis, Minnesota in July 2009. It also create a legitimate questions of INDEPENDENCE AND CREDIBILITY of the elections commission. Which I think is nonsensical and pointless at this time. I believe, it will be counter-productive for us to encourage something that may undermine the credibility of our Community. If anyone has a concern about the elections process, he/she should have contested the elections results by the time specified in the elections guidelines. For anyone to bring out this kind of distraction at this point, that person must be construed by all of us as "ENEMY OF PROGRESS". We need to transform this kind of primitive ideology of " MY WAY OR NO WAY " to democratic principle and the respect for the rule of law, as we strive for a common purpose.
