Pres. Sirleaf Meets Camara and Koroma

Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is in Conakry, Guinea, on a one-day official working visit.
An Executive Mansion release says the President will hold consultations with Guinean Head of State Moussa Camara, on matters relating to the two countries.

The Liberian leader, who currently chairs the Mano River Union (MRU) sub-regional grouping, will also join Sierra Leonean President Ernest Bai Koroma in Lelalehun, Gola Forest, Kenema District, today, May 15, 2009, for a one-day event, marking the dedication of the Trans-Border Peace Park in the Gola Forest.

The European Commission and United Nations, which are facilitating the event, say the establishment of the Trans-Border Peace Park, would pay tribute to the recent history of the two countries, namely, the civil wars in Liberia and Sierra Leone, which were both fuelled by the unsustainable exploitation of the natural resources and heritage.

The Peace Park, a European Union-funded project, will be a great symbol for long-lasting peace, security and stability in both countries as well as the entire MRU Region.
During President Johnson Sirleaf's absence from the country, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mrs. Edmonia D. Tarpeh, will coordinate the affairs of Government, in consultation with the Vice President, Joseph Boakai.
