UL Commencement Update Courtesy: Liberian Observer May 17, 2009 After
many years of labor, 2,400 students graduated from the University of
Liberia (UL) in various disciplines. Most of those who graduated from
the University were either self-supported or children of ordinary
Liberians who can hardly make ends meet in our society. Though the task
was tedious yet they made it, succeeding against all odds. I can surmise that there were days and nights when they thought all else had given way but courage was always at their doorsteps, reminding them that indeed failure is not counted in life's dictionary of success. Be as it may, the graduates did not relent irrespective of the number of abnormal closures of the institution due lack of financial support and others, and yet they graduated after all. One may wonder why I am featuring those dancing for the graduates and not themselves. The answer is simple; those that were rejoicing outside of the commencement hall were the ones who had made enormous sacrifices in providing for some of those graduates. During the exercise I took a side attraction approach by visiting most of those who were accompanying their loved ones, relatives and were merrymaking. When I saw these women celebrating the graduation of their relatives, I was moved to have them on Candid Camera today. |
