Launching the National
Vision Project
By Nvasekie N.
Konneh
30 July, 2010
Twenty
years from now where will
Liberia be? By then will we
be self-sufficient in food
production to feed its
growing population? Will we
be identified simply as
Liberians or by our
ethnicity and religion? Is
Liberia is multi-cultural
society or a nation founded
on Christian Principle?
Where is our sense of
cultural pride and
nationalism? Can Liberia
achieve the developmental
levels of Ivory Coast,
Ghana, or Nigeria in the
next 25 years or even
surpass them?

Prince Johnson To Change

Prince
Johnson’s survival and
success as a military
tactician came as no
surprise. His political
triumph as Senator amongst
the contenders in Nimba also
surprised only those who did
not wake up early to realize
the post war political
mathematics and the deep
suspicion that characterized
it. But what came as
surprise was the former
rebel leader-cum politician
presidential ambition along
with a fellow of almost
similar genre. As Helroz
Zorleh of Our Staff Reports,
PYJ is likely to drop his
running mate, Abel Massaley,
in what could be a sign of
tactics or indecisiveness.

Liberians Observe 163 Years
of Independence Monday

26 July, 2010
Liberia,
Africa’s oldest republic, is
celebrating 163 years of
independence Monday.
Information Minister Cletus
Sieh told VOA that, after
five years of significant
improvement, Liberians are
thankful for electing
President Sirleaf. “When
Madam Sirleaf was
campaigning, she promised
the Liberian people that, if
she got elected, she would
redeem our nation. Our
nation, that had been
considered as a failed
state, will, (has) now been
accepted by the comity of
nations. Now, as Liberians
today, we can go to any part
of the world and walk
majestically knowing that we
are Liberians,” he said.
Sieh also recounted other
achievements during the
five-year reign of President
Sirleaf.

African
strongmen sometimes left
bitter feelings on the minds
of those who might have
opposed them politically. In
Most, if not all, human
societies, the deeds of a
man may live long after him
to hunt his children and
relatives or become
embarrassment to them. In
political terms, such past
wrongs are easily forgiven
when remorse is shown and
pardon sought. This is
rarely the case as people
are found of the habit to
justifying the past or
conceal the embarrassment
their revelation may cause.
As our Staff reports on, the
First President of Guinea is
viewed by others, especially
those who might have opposed
him, or on whose toes he
might have stepped, as a
less favorable figure.

decades, when the peace
loving people of Liberia
went through difficult
times, including a bloody
civil war. “It will not be
pertinent because some of
the details are still too
fresh and painful to many
individuals whose land and
properties are still being
illegally occupied in Nimba.”

Retrospection of the
“Barkidu Massacre,” The True

20 July, 2010
As
we commemorate the 21stth
anniversary of the infamous
“Barkidu Massacre”, it must
be noted that it is both
worldly and Godly reality,
that while it true that
millions of Liberians and
non -Liberians suffered as a
result of the despicable,
heinous, vicious, and
diabolical military
adventurism of Charles
Taylor, little did the
religious people of
“Barkidu” hypothesize that
this religious beckon of
“Lofa County”, the enviable
Islamic center, vibrant and
enterprising town would have
been targeted leading to the
massacre of hundreds
innocent “Mandingoes”,
including women children,
and the elderly with out any
justifiable reasons.

Who Are They? Judges or
Pastors?
By: Bangalee
Trawally
15 July, 2010
It
is interesting to note that
people considered to be
peace brokers have now
become judges in their own
rights. Of late, the
Liberian Clergymen of
Minnesota operating under
the name the Liberian
Ministerial Association (LMA)
decide to probe into the
long standing dispute
between OLM’s discharged
Chairman John Tarley and the
Board of OLM, and thereby
making sweeping statements
to satisfy their desires.
It’s my understanding that
LMA has paid deaf ears to
the constitution that
governs the organization,
but rendered judgment based
on fallacies, and what they
believe should be done. This
is like a Supreme Court
judges legislating from the
bend instead of coming down
with their verdict based on
the law (constitution). This
is unfortunate that men of
God will behave as such.

will be the provisional

previous versions. He says

Why Nimba? Why Now?
By:Mohamed Sherif
12 July, 2010
President
Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has
selected Sanniquellie, Nimba
County as the site of this
year’s Independence Day,
July 26 celebration in spite
of that county’s infamous
reputation as the venue of
horrific Massacres during
Liberia’s uncivil war. With
the hands of its two senior
Legislative leaders dripping
with the blood of the
innocents, the choice of
Sanniquellie defies all
reasonable logic. With
illegal dwellers and
squatters still occupying
Mandingo-owned houses and
farmlands, the intriguing
choice of Nimba county at
this time is
counter-productive to the
peace we so endear.
