Responding to Varmuyan Sirleaf's
Infantile Rebuttal to My Article By: Volunteer Reporter July 12, 2009 I have just read the infantile reaction of Varmuyan Sirleaf to the article on the Mandingo Nations website about the President Elect Mohammed Dukuly not wanting to pay on two different occasions during the just ended FELMAUSA Convention in Minnesota. If I was Varmuyan, I would let the sleeping dog lie or come out with something intelligent and convincing enough. By coming out with some lame excuses, he is prolonging a matter that should be buried with simple acknowledgement of a mistake. Granted that Varmuyan is saying what he has to say as a way of defending the President Elect Dukuly, the question then is why he (Varmuyan) and all the other candidates, including President Richmond Konneh, had to pay without argument? In any case for this to have come from Varmuyan is no surprise. In 2007 during the inauguration of the Richmond Konneh administration in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, when Richmond Konneh himself had to pay $25.00 at the gate, Varmuyan reluctantly paid after previously refusing to pay. He almost got into a fight with the gatekeepers. Given his own history as such, it is not surprising why he would come to the defense of another person who is following his foot step. Mind you this is the same Varmuyan Sirleaf who wanted to fight the Imam in the mosque in Milwaukee, Wisconsin because the Imam said women who are not covered should not enter the mosque and since his wife was not covered, he thought the imam was talking to his wife. According to Varmuyan Sirleaf, "Those who say that forcing everybody to pay including the gate-keeper was done to raise money do not know FELMAUSA well. FELMAUSA is a potent and viable organization with well knowledgeable men and women that have powerful, persuasive and effective ideas to raise tons of money in various ways." This statement only shows how flamboyant Varmuyan is sounding. If Varmuyan thinks there are "powerful, persuasive and effective ideas to raise tons of money in various ways," why has he not employed any of these methods within the last two years to raise fund for FELMAUSA? As the Educational Committee Chairman, how much has he contributed to the fund raising efforts of his own committee? With that being the case, all Varmuyan is saying here is nothing but breeze. He has no clue as to what he is talking about. He is just talking for the heck of it. His talking has no backbone because he has nothing to prove of either his own financial contribution to FELMAUSA or the way of generating “tons of money” for FELMAUSA. Varmuyan went on to say that "We should never disrespect our r useful and essential people for the sake of money." How asking FELMAUSA's members to support FELMAUSA during its function can be equated to "disrespecting our useful and essential people for the sake of money." How can this be considered "embezzlement" when that's the only way people like Varmuyan Sirleaf can contribute financially to FELMAUSA? If Varmuyan is using the above argument as the reason for Mr. Dukuly's refusal to pay, what about the $20.00 charge for the dance when Dukuly had just been elected as president? Varmuyan Sirleaf should be ashamed of himself for making these lame excuses for the not so good actions of the President Elect. While we respect the fact that Mr. Dukuly won a landslide victory in the just ended FELMAUSA's election, we should not hesitate to tell him the truth if he does something wrong. He is a gentleman and he must behave like one at all times. These two incidences were not ones of his finest moments. |
