A
former military ruler in
Nigeria is running for
president in elections
scheduled for next year. The
candidacy has revived
allegations of corruption
during his time in power.
Retired general Ibrahim
Babangida says he is running
for president because he
left so many things behind
when he left Abuja,
including the value of
Nigeria's currency, stable
fuel prices, and government
reform.He told reporters
this week that he wants to
return to the capital to
pick up those things for the
benefit of ordinary
Nigerians.
Babangida is among half a
dozen candidates vying for
the ruling-party's

Million Dollar Cash Payment
is the Solution to Nimba
Land Dispute
By Nvasekie N. Konneh
29 April, 2010
After
many years of wrangling and
mediation efforts, it seems
like there is a sign of
permanent solution to the
Nimba land crisis. The 14
member land commission set
up by the president of
Liberia Madam Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf
to oversee the peaceful
resolution to the land
crisis that has plagued
Nimba County over the years
came out with a proposed
solution which is to offer
cash payments to either the
original owners or the
person illegally occupying
the properties. Under the
chairmanship of a son of
Nimba County, the Musa
Bility led commission,
having listened to people on
both sides of the equation
advanced the idea of
providing money as
incentives to obtaining
peaceful resolution to the
protracted land dispute.

Tribalism-The Banes of
Liberia’s Problem
By: FELMAUSA VP, Hon: Mohammed S. Kromah
08 April, 2010
The
recent misunderstanding
between the Lormas on one
hand and the Mandingos on
the other in Lofa County
poses another threat to the
fragile peace being enjoyed
in Liberia currently.
This assertion is based on
the past experience
witnessed by the nation in
the early stages of the
Liberian civil war which
claimed the lives of
thousands of people with
unimaginable proportion of
damages done to properties
at state and private
levels.It is quite clear
that the Liberian civil war
took a worst turn only when
it assumed tribal dimension.
Men and women along with
their children were
selectively killed or
maltreated because they
belonged to one tribe or the
other.
